The Daily Telegraph named National Newspaper of the Year at newsawards 2016
Grand Prix goes to the Financial Times

28 April 2016 – National Newspaper of the Year has been awarded to The Daily Telegraph at newsawards 2016, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Up against a strong list of nominees, The Telegraph took top spot for its consistently impressive presentation and repro, with the judges saying it was “beautifully printed”.

newsawards 2016 was hosted by stand-up comedian and star of QI and Jonathan Creek, Alan Davies, at the London Lancaster in front of over 500 guests.

The Grand Prix, which goes to the news media brand that brings together the most cohesive and compelling print-digital-business offering to the market, went to the FT, with judges commenting that “the FT is building a sustainable future and is developing some great new commercial opportunities. It’s the Total Package.”

It was a great night for Telegraph titles with Sunday Newspaper of the Year going to The Sunday Telegraph and National Supplement/Magazine of the Year won by Telegraph Fashion. Regional Newspaper of the Year was awarded to the Courier – Dundee. The coveted Printer awards went to Newsprinters Broxbourne (National Printer) and DC Thomson’s Discovery Print (Regional Printer).

The big winner in the Digital categories was The Guardian which took four of the five awards: News Website of the Year, News App of the Year, Best Use of User Generated Content and Most Innovative Use of Mobile Technology.

Gary Cullum, director of newsawards, says: “Newspapers in all their formats have an informative and engaging connection with the reader. It is this connection that gives national, regional and local press, in print and online, a fundamental role in delivering advertisers a highly trusted and relevant environment which drives real action.

“The past 20 years of awards have seen our print brands applauded in their many formats. Looking back, our awards reflect a busy, tumultuous, sometimes tortuous but exciting and adventurous 20 years. Together we have championed and celebrated the very best in newspaper and news media print, technology and business innovation.”
